Below are movies showing our actual (as opposed to planned) path around the world. We will attempt to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Enjoy!
Part 1
The start of our journey! After leaving our jobs, renting the house, selling a car, etc., we left Las Vegas, Nevada on September 12th, 2012. We drove across the country to visit with family before flying to Quito, Ecuador on October 2nd, 2012.
In South America, we traveled over land through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile for about 5 1/2 months. We also travled by ice breaker boat to the Antarctic peninsula and South Georgia island, which took about 1 month. Finally, we spent another month traveling over land in Uruguay, Argentina and Chile before leaving the continent on April 30th, 2013.
Part 2
Part two of our journey begins with leaving South America and heading to Fiji for a short stop on the way to New Zealand. We traveled over land throughout both the north and south islands for one month before spending a week in Sydney, Australia.
Part 3
The third leg of our journey starts with leaving Sydney, Australia and heading into Asia (and warm weather). Our first stop was Singapore and we crossed into mainland Malaysia from there. After 2 weeks in Malaysia, we flew to Bali, Indonesia. We were feeling a little travel burnout prior to arriving in Indonesia, so we spent some quality time here (making trips to the islands of Lombok and Flores, too). Thirty-nine out of the sixty days spent in Indonesia were in the town of Ubud. The leg ends when we depart Bali for Kathmandu, Nepal for a month or so of trekking.
Part 4
The fourth and final leg of our journey begins with leaving Kathmandu, Nepal for a week in Hong Kong followed by 3 months touring many parts of China. After 2 months of kung fu training in Yantai and an overnight train to Beijing, we flew to Istanbul, Turkey for a one week stay with friends. Athens, Greece was our next stop, followed by a one month visit to the city of Palermo on the island of Sicily. Our journey ends after additional stops to the Aeolian islands, the Amalfi coast, Naples and finally Rome.
