After the exciting flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, we were finally ready to begin the Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek. Within an hour of touchdown, we had retrieved our packs, met our porter and set out…
As we sat sipping our iced coffees at a little cafe in Pokhara celebrating the completion of our trek, we contemplated if we could really leave Nepal without seeing Mount Everest….
Trekking in Nepal has been a personal dream since I first started to admire pictures of ‘big’ mountains as a teenager. I always imagined it as a remote, difficult to access place where only ‘real explorers’ traveled…
It was day 302 on the road when we arrived in Singapore from Sydney. To make a long story short, we were headed into what is affectionally referred to as “travel burnout”. We knew we needed a change to rejuvenate our traveling spirits, but what exactly?…
After nine months on the road, odd as it may sound, Kenny and I really had begun to crave a little more stability in our day to day living. Following New Zealand and Australia, our entry into Asia through Singapore and peninsular Malaysia felt like one hot, sweaty, blurred mess…
Since beginning our trip in October of 2012, Kenny and I have talked about learning to scuba dive as one of our ‘bucket list’ experiences. Following the trip to Komodo, the intent was to…
Traveling to Komodo Island is something which has conjured images of Indiana Jones style exploring for quite a long time. It just seems like the sort of place people shouldn’t go. Somewhere wild, unexplored and dangerous. It is after all called the Land of the Dragon. With such a perceived reputation, there couldn’t be a better endorsement for us to visit…
We couldn’t exactly visit New Zealand without exploring just a bit of Middle Earth. Even from stepping off the plane in Auckland to Lord of the Rings (LOTR) themed murals on the walls, it was clear we were off to have an adventure…
Just for you, we have carefully tallied every dollar, sole, peso and boliviano spent during our South American journey. We have listed the average daily cost per person by…
There are a lot of things which come to mind when recalling what it was like to travel in Argentina. Beautiful architecture, tasty wines, grilled meats…
I first learned of South Georgia island from watching a television series called Travels to the Edge with Art Wolfe. Art Wolfe is the lucky…
All photos from this gallery are from our voyages to Antarctica (March 9th – March 20th, 2013) and to South Georgia island (March 20th – April 6th, 2013).
The white continent. We started dreaming of this place when we first began to discuss a round the world trip…
Valparaíso, Chile, or Valpo as it is affectionately known, is a seaside city with a unique character unlike any other place we have visited…
It goes without saying that not all travel experiences can be amazing all of the time. As the song goes, “The wheels on the bus go up and down…
In any guidebook describing the highlights of a visit to Bolivia, you will find mention of the Salar de Uyuni – and with good reason…
Never underestimate the power of a personal connection and the impact it can have on your overall experience of a place. While sick in Puno, we befriended a young boy working in our hostel simply by smiling and greeting him each morning by name…
Sometimes, every day life steps in and forces you to slow down or even take a few steps backwards. Nothing more so than being sick away from home…
Managing money during extended travel doesn’t have to be difficult. The days of having to carry traveler’s checks and needing to make trips to the bank in the countries you visit are over…
Ahhh… the packing list. Every self-respecting travel blog has a page listing every single item packed for the journey. Below is our attempt…
The little beach town of Huanchaco, Peru was our first stop after leaving the mountains of Ecuador. After our 2am border crossing, we skirted through the northern city of Piura and headed south to Trujillo.
Here are some photos taken during our week long stay on Easter Island (December 5th – 12th, 2012)…
Easter Island, also known as Isla de Pascua in Spanish or Rapa Nui in Polynesian, is the most recent detour from our loosely scheduled itinerary in South America…
One of the best parts about open-ended traveling is that it gives you the option to change your mind regarding the next destination at a moment’s notice. After a fantastic week studying Spanish in Quito, Kenny and I planned to leave the capital city for for the relaxing hot springs of Banos, Ecuador…
Below are a handful of the pictures captured during a recent trip to the Galapagos islands. It is a one-of-a-kind place for…
Kenny and I just returned from an unforgettable 12 days in the Galapagos Islands, 8 days aboard ship and 4 solo on the islands of Isabela and Santa Cruz. Though initially we had intended to fly to the islands independently and day trip to nearby sites, we found a last minute deal in Quito aboard the Yate Floreana.
It is official – we have no keys, no cell phone and no permanent address. We’ve been out of the States now for two and a half weeks and so far are loving every minute. Departing the country went off without a hitch and we were successful in loading our world into two carry-on size backpacks.
Here are some pictures we have taken over the last three weeks on our journey from Las Vegas to Apex, NC before we migrate south for the winter.
With our fuzzy children in tow, we have finished the cross-country drive portion of our final few weeks in the USA. Though Kenny and I have road tripped quite a bit together…
Big news on the travel front, one-way airline tickets to Quito, Ecuador booked! We officially leave the country on…
It is hard to believe, but it is T-minus 6 weeks until we depart Las Vegas and begin our round-the-world adventure…
Death Valley is a unique National Park. It holds the record for being the lowest, hottest, and driest place in all of North America. This of course begs the obvious question, “Why on earth would you want to go there?”…
So, what is wrong with this picture? I’m eating like I’m back in college again, yet my cats are having the human equivalent of a steak and lobster dinner…
Midway up, I recall us stopping as Kenny had indicated to my parents that perhaps I wasn’t doing so well. I had a death grip on the driver’s seat head rest with my face buried in my dad’s jacket which…
These are some pictures taken from our recent trip to Thailand.
It was difficult to think back on our journey to Thailand this past December without vividly recalling the myriad of temples that dotted the countryside. These beautiful structures were an integral part of the landscape and culture of Thailand which for us stood out as the physical representation of our departure from the ‘Western’ world.
So, you want to take a round the world trip. Is it possible you’ve overlooked the task of being properly vaccinated prior to your departure? If so, no doubt you’ll want to visit your local vaccine clinic for a consultation, volunteering your arms (and wallet) up for a little abuse.

“Have you ever been to Narnia?” This question, delivered by our guide ‘Old’ Tim, was our first introduction to Norris Geyser Basin as we approached the trailhead. I was confused by the reference at first until we began our descent into the snow covered forrest surrounding this area.
After a whirlwind adventure to the largest caldera on the planet, here are our top picks of must do activities in and around Yellowstone National Park in the winter.
I imagine corrective vision surgery is not typically on the packing list for a person planning a trip around the world. I’m not even sure I should say it was actually on my packing list. However, the idea of not dealing with contact lenses, lens solution, cases and glasses was a great motivator to finally…
It may have become noticeable that each of our posts have been created by faceless bloggers from somewhere out in the world. Why is this you ask? Are we ashamed to show ourselves? Don’t we want to introduce ourselves to other would-be and existing world travelers? After all, we already posted about how one of […]
Tonight was a spicy reminder of one of the many reasons why we are inspired to take a RTW trip. And by spicy, I mean hot. Red hot…
It is so exciting to have a tentative travel plan laid out for our round-the-world journey. As of now, our planned launch date for this trip is the beginning of October 2012. That officially gives us another seven and a half months to get everything in order before leaving the country.
Here it is!!! After many weeks of researching where our RTW journey will go, we have a general outline to share!
